On October 30th from 5pm - 6pm in the Chase Center ACS is pleased to host Professor Beyranevand who will discuss recent developments in administrative law. The discussion will be focused on the recent Supreme Court decision Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo which overruled Chevron v. NRDC and Chevron deference and how Loper Bright fits in with other Supreme Court decision's this past term. Professor Beyranevand is Vermont Law's Director of the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems and in-house expert in administrative law, teaching the class administrative law to VLGS students. Professor Beyranevand's work at the Center for Agriculture often involves federal agencies, especially those located in the Department of Agriculture, and has been quoted major publications like the Washington Post. Corporatocracy: How to Protect Democracy from Dark Money
Professor Ciara Torres-Spelliscy of Stetson Law and formerly Counsel in the Democracy Program of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law will be discussing her book Corporatocracy: How to Protect Democracy from Dark Money. Professor Torres-Spelliscy is an expert on the role of money in politics and the judiciary. The event will be cosponsored by HBLSA and the Equal Democracy Project.
ACS Columbia: Perspectives from Formerly Incarcerated Legal Professionals
The Columbia Law School Chapter of the American Constitution Society will co-sponsor a panel of formerly incarcerated individuals in the legal profession. The discussion will highlight the journeys of Phil Miller, Marc Ramirez, and Darren Breeden, and explore how they are enacting change, from attending law school to becoming a district attorney. This event is hosted by the Columbia Law Latin American Law Students Association.
