ACS Arizona: Britain’s Slavery Debt, Reparations and the Responsibility of Universities
In his book, Britain’s Slavery Debt: Reparations Now! Michael Banner argues that Britain owes reparations to the Caribbean for the period of enslavement and colonialism. In this talk he will briefly outline the argument he makes, while focusing on the particular responsibility and opportunity which universities may have in advancing the case for reparations. He will relate this discussion to similar proposals in the United States.

ACS: Discussion on the Myth of Noncitizen Voting
The Columbia Law School Chapter of the American Constitution Society will host Sean Morales-Doyle of the Brennan Center for Justice for a discussion about the myth of noncitizens voting in local, state, and federal elections and the issues that marginalized citizens face concerning their right to vote. The event will be moderated by Columbia Law Professor Richard Briffault and cosponsored by Columbia Law Students for Voting Rights and Columbia's Black Law Students Association.
ACS Columbia: Perspectives from Formerly Incarcerated Legal Professionals
The Columbia Law School Chapter of the American Constitution Society will co-sponsor a panel of formerly incarcerated individuals in the legal profession. The discussion will highlight the journeys of Phil Miller, Marc Ramirez, and Darren Breeden, and explore how they are enacting change, from attending law school to becoming a district attorney. This event is hosted by the Columbia Law Latin American Law Students Association.

On November 12th, 2024, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the Chase Center the ACS welcomes Solicitor General John Rose to talk about the Second Amendment. Solicitor General Rose is an experienced attorney with nearly 20 years of legal experience. This event hopes to be a fruitful discussion on the history of the Second Amendment, surrounding jurisprudence, and recent Supreme Court decisions relating the Supreme Court. Administrative Law Post-Loper Bright
On October 30th from 5pm - 6pm in the Chase Center ACS is pleased to host Professor Beyranevand who will discuss recent developments in administrative law. The discussion will be focused on the recent Supreme Court decision Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo which overruled Chevron v. NRDC and Chevron deference and how Loper Bright fits in with other Supreme Court decision's this past term. Professor Beyranevand is Vermont Law's Director of the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems and in-house expert in administrative law, teaching the class administrative law to VLGS students. Professor Beyranevand's work at the Center for Agriculture often involves federal agencies, especially those located in the Department of Agriculture, and has been quoted major publications like the Washington Post.
