Gun Violence, Domestic Violence, and the Supreme Court: Twin Threats before the Court in United States v. Rahimi

Four Panelists: 

Mr. Eric Tirschwell, Executive Director and Chief Litigation Counsel at Everytown Law

Dr. Megan Ranney, Dean of Yale School of Public Health and C-E.A. Winslow Professor of Public Health (Health Policy) and Professor of Emergency Medicine

Professor Jesenia Pizarro, Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice in Arizona State University

Professor Michael Ulrich, Assistant Professor of Health Law, Ethics, & Human Rights at Boston University’s School of Public Health and School of Law

Mr. Tirschwell will set the stage, discussing what United States v. Rahimi is about, the legal work Everytown is doing on the intersection of gun violence and domestic violence, and Everytown’s amicus brief in Rahimi. Dr. Ranney will discuss her work on recognizing gun violence as an epidemic, how we can conceptualize domestic violence as a public health issue, and her perspective as an emergency room physician. Professor Pizarro will discuss your research on firearms and domestic violence, as well as provide a criminology perspective on these issues. Professor Ulrich will discuss the public health law aspects of United States v. Rahimi, the public health scholars amicus brief, and perhaps his Foreword in the issue of the Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics on the fight against gun violence (especially the idea of using a justice-centered firearms framework and how this framework could be applied to the intersection of gun violence and domestic violence)
