Hate: Why We Should Combat it With Free Speech, Not Censorship

FIU College of Law RDB 2008, Miami, Florida

A co-hosted event on the 17th anniversary of 9/11 with our school's ACLU, Immigration Law Society, Stonewall Alliance, Federalist Society, and Libertarian Law Student Association. Nadine Strossen, Harvard Law graduate, NYU Law professor, and former ACLU president will speak to a room of 75 students and faculty about the dangers of censorship, even when the message we want to censor is hateful. Professor Strossen will deliberate with the distinguished professor Juan Gomez, who heads the Immigration Clinic here at FIU Law, to really get people thinking about the dangers of censorship, the ways different groups manipulate the First Amendment for their needs, and what we as young lawyers and law students can do to help.
