Washington, DC The American Constitution Society (ACS) is pleased to announce that United States Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) will speak at the 2022 ACS National Convention on June 16.

"I am excited to announce Senator Padilla as a speaker at this year's ACS National Convention," said ACS President Russ Feingold. "Senator Padilla has done tremendous work during his first term on the Senate Judiciary Committee, playing a pivotal role in helping confirm a record number of diverse and highly-qualified judges to the federal bench. During the historic confirmation hearings of Justice-Designate Ketanji Brown Jackson, Senator Padilla stood out as a voice of reason and reflection in celebrating the progress that Judge Jackson’s nomination – and subsequent confirmation - represents in achieving the promise of our democracy. We are grateful for his leadership and look forward to his remarks at our convention."

Senator Padilla's remarks will center on his work as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and will take place during the convention's Welcome Dinner on Thursday, June 16th, at 7 p.m. ET at the Marriott Marquis, 901 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC.

Padilla is the first Latino to represent California in the U.S. Senate. He was appointed in January 2021 to complete the Senate term of Vice President Kamala Harris. He was drawn to politics in response to California’s anti-immigrant Proposition 187. He was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 1999 and the State Senate in 2006. As California’s Secretary of State, he oversaw a historic expansion of voting rights and voter participation.

In addition to serving as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety, Padilla is a member of the Senate Committees on Budget; Environment and Public Works; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; Judiciary; and Rules.

Media wishing to cover Sen. Padilla’s remarks in-person or virtually should RSVP ACS Press Secretary Pablo Willis at pwillis@acslaw.org.
