Washington, DC - On Thursday, the U.S. Senate voted 51-47 in favor of recognizing the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution. In response to the vote, Russ Feingold, president of ACS, issued this statement:

“As women and LGBTQ+ individuals face increasing threats to their reproductive and bodily autonomy, the Equal Rights Amendment is more important than ever. Our founders did not consider the Constitution written in stone, which is why they provided a means by which to amend it. The ERA has met all constitutional requirements and should be recognized as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution. Today’s Senate vote lends momentum to the continued effort to realizing the 28th Amendment.”
