Dinner Table Discussion on the Intersection of Racism, Gender, LGBTQIA+ and the Law

Please join the NYU ACS Student Chapter on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 for a Dinner Table Discussion about the intersection of racism, gender, LGBTQIA+ issues, and the law. This conversation will be led by Professor Shirley Lin, an Acting Assistant Professor of Lawyering. Her research focuses on sex and disability discrimination, the rights of LGBTQIA+ workers, legal theory, and organizational theory.

Professor Shirley Lin will assign a couple articles related to race, gender, and LGBTQIA+ identity to help registrants ground their discussion. No background knowledge is required. This is a wonderful opportunity to discuss these important issues with a NYU Law faculty member.

ACS DC: Voices from Death Row Series: Juan Melendez

Join the ACS DC, At-Large, Bay Area, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis-St. Paul Lawyer Chapters and the Texas Moratorium Network for a presentation by exonerated death-row inmate Juan Melendez.

Juan Melendez spent nearly 18 years on Florida's death row for a crime he did NOT commit. In January 2002, he became the 99th death-row inmate to be exonerated and released since 1973. His case highlights persistent and pervasive problems in America’s death penalty system. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about Juan’s struggle for freedom, and his inspirational story of human resilience, courage, faith and forgiveness. Juan’s presentation will follow a Q&A session featuring capital punishment experts Richard Dieter and Judi Caruso.

Featuring:

Judi Caruso, Attorney, New Mexico Law Office of the Public Defender; Former Board Member, Witness to Innocence

Richard Dieter, Former Executive Director, Death Penalty Information Center of DC; Board Member, Witness to Innocence

Juan Melendez, Exonerated Death-Row Inmate

Moderated by:
