Reparations Movement Discussion

On campus, Chicago, IL

At this event we hope to discuss how legal instruments created and perpetuated discrimination, what success looks like for this local movement, and what more can be done to bring about transformative change. We will host a conversation with former Evanston Alderman, Robin Rue Simmons, who led the movement to pass the reparations program in Evanston and now serves as the Executive Director of FirstRepair, a not-for-profit organization that informs local reparations, nationally. We are hosting Northwestern Professor of Political Science Alvin Tillery, who specializes in American political thought and critical race theory.
