Ohio Shotspotter Discussion
Columbus has implemented the use of Shotspotter technology in a couple of neighborhoods. This technology is a product of a private company that uses three microphones to listen for gunshots. The microphones then send the location and sound to the private company and someone confirms if it was actually a gunshot. This information is sent to a nearby police department to respond. All this is supposed to happen in seconds. We will discuss the Constitutional implications of this technology in both the context of the fourth amendment and the confrontation clause, and any other issues the panelists see fit.Â
Panelists: Professor Ric Simmons, Patrick Clark, and Christina Drummond.
