Lawyering and Race: ICE Detention in the Deep South

Northwestern University Law School, Chicago, IL

Join the Children and Family Justice Center, ACS, ACLU NLaw, and PODER in welcoming acclaimed immigration attorney and civil rights activist Marty Rosenbluth to the Bluhm Legal Clinic. At this Lawyering and Race event, Rosenbluth will discuss the challenges of providing legal aid to detained asylum-seekers in the deep south. Rosenbluth has dedicated his life to providing effective representation to the most forgotten clients - especially asylum-seekers detained in the rural and isolated Stewart County Detention Facility in Lumpkin, Georgia. In 2017, he relocated his practice from Durham, North Carolina to Lumpkin to be closer to his clients. Rosenbluth is one of the few attorneys representing migrants at this facility. His extraordinary work and dedication has been showcased in a number of recent articles in prominent publications, including The Guardian, The Christian Science Monitor, and Ha'aretz. He also recently published an op-ed in the Washington Post about the challenges of working within a flawed immigration system. Lunch will be provided at this event.
