Islamic Law Speaker Series: Hedayat Heikal, “Inheritance versus Personal Status: Shifting National Strategies in Syria, Egypt, and Tunisia”


On Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 12:00-1:00PM US EST via Zoom, Dr. Hedayat Heikal will speak about inheritance and personal status laws in Syria, Egypt, and Tunisia. Dr. Heikal is currently a Research Fellow 2021-2022 at the Program in Islamic Law, Harvard Law School. She previously served as a Research Scholar in Law and the inaugural Islamic Law and Civilization Research Fellow at Yale Law School, held a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the American University in Cairo, as held a Climenko Fellowship at Harvard Law School. Her academic work focuses on comparative constitutional law, the rise of the administrative state, and Middle Eastern and Islamic law. Dr. Heikal also holds an SJD as well as a JD magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and a BSc summa cum laude from the American University in Cairo.
