Batson Reform in Arizona

ACS will host Professor Beety on Monday, October 4 at lunch for a discussion on Arizona's recent Batson reform efforts. Arizona recently became the first state to eliminate peremptory challenges. Previously, attorneys were allowed to strike jurors without stating a reason why, with the caveat that they could not remove a juror because of the juror's race, although cases were rarely reversed on this basis. Come hear about Professor Beety's role in reform efforts!
