ACS & OutLaw in Conversation with the Giffords Law Center & March for Our Lives

Happy April, Everyone! As we prepare to close another great semester, I wanted to remind everyone about our last official SU ACS event of the semester, which will be this Thursday, April 4th, from 6-7 pm in Room 442 and on Zoom. ACS and OutLaw are partnering together to welcome two great speakers, Leigh Rome from the Giffords Law Center and Brynn Jones from March for Our Lives, to discuss recent 2nd Amendment Supreme Court Rulings and the epidemic of gun violence currently sweeping the nation. 

This will be a catered event, so please try to show up 15-20 minutes early so that you can get some food. There will be an open Q+A as well as a deep discussion of the 2nd Amendment's history, the role of originalism in perpetuating gun violence, and judicial and legal updates about the local Buffalo Tops grocery store shooting, which took the lives of ten people. 

As the last official ACS event of the semester, we would love to have as many people as possible attend and participate in the discussion. So please invite your friends and other interested folks to attend!

Leigh Rome

Senior Litigation Attorney & Pro Bono Manager, GIFFORDS Law Center 

Leigh Rome joined GIFFORDS Law Center in 2022, where she is part of the litigation team and manages pro bono partnerships. Leigh acts as a liaison between GIFFORDS Law Center’s legal team and pro bono partners who generously volunteer their assistance. She also supports the Firearms Accountability Counsel Taskforce (FACT), a joint effort of leading gun violence prevention organizations working with the nation’s preeminent law firms to reduce gun violence. Prior to joining GIFFORDS Law Center, Leigh was a senior litigation associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, residing in the New York office. Prior to joining Fried Frank, she was an Alexander Judicial Fellow to the Honorable Jack B. Weinstein at the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Leigh earned her BA from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University and her JD from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

Brynn Jones 

March for Our Lives Legal Associate

Brynn Jones is a legal associate with March for Our Lives, where she and her team write amicus briefs in GVP cases across the country that integrate legal arguments with the stories of survivors of gun violence, typically young people, whose experiences highlight the cost of gun violence and the value of reform. She is from Nashville, Tennessee, and is a 4th year at Vanderbilt University studying political science and communication students. After the Covenant shooting last spring, Brynn co-organized a 7,000-student walk-out, a 12-hour occupation after the expulsion of two state legislators the following week, and helped lead a coalition that facilitated three weeks of continuous action for gun regulation, democracy & racial justice in Tennessee.
