ACS New Mexico: Tribal Justice: Honoring Indigenous Dispute Resolution

UNM School of Law Forum, Albuquerque, NM

Join the ACS New Mexico University School of Law Student Chapter for the 20th Anniversary Symposium of the Tribal Law Journal (TLJ). Speakers include Congresswoman Debra Haaland (D-NM01), one of the first Native American women elected to the U.S. Congress, and Chief Justice Robert Yazzie, Chief Justice Emeritus of the Navajo Nation. The symposium will also include a screening of the award-winning documentary Tribal Justice, which highlights the efforts of tribal courts to create alternative systems of justice, and features judges asserting tribal sovereignty and invoking their own traditions to heal their people and raise them out of poverty and inequality. After the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring judges from the film and local indigenous judges.
