ACS/FedSoc Originalism Debate
It's an event four years in the making. The 2020 debate season gets into full swing September 29th as Trump and Biden face off at 9 p.m....But the true heavyweight matchup of the day will be happening earlier, at high noon, on our very own campus (actually, on Zoom, but close enough).
Are the rights and powers expressed in the Constitution etched in stone at the time of their ratification, or is it ridiculous to expect a modern government and society to be so tightly bound by the "dead hand of the past"? The ACS UGA Law Student Chapters and the UGA Federalist Society are delighted to invite you to join us as we kick off the debate season for real.
Come see Professor Eric Segall of Georgia State University and Professor Ilan Wurman of Arizona State University debate the theoretical and practical value of the originalist theory of Constitutional interpretation—moderated by our very own Professor Sonja West, with a Q&A session to follow.
