ACS Chicago: Discussion on Illinois Gun Litigation with Tom Geoghegan
Does Illinois's failure to enforce gun regulations in areas with high crime rates violate civil rights?
Please join the ACS Chicago for a hybrid discussion with Tom Geoghegan, lead plaintiffs' counsel in Mathews, etc., et al., v. State of Illinois, Case No. 18-cv-6675, in which plaintiffs allege that the State of Illinois, through its failure to enforce the Dealer Firearm Licensing Act, the Firearm Owner Identification Card Act, and the Gun Trafficking Information Act, have violated Section 5(a)(2) of the Illinois Civil Rights Act of 2003 (ICRA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 29 U.S.C § 794. Plaintiffs allege that the failure to enforce these gun regulations has caused plaintiffs to experience increased exposure to gun violence, resulting in a harsh and disparate impact.
