2019 Supreme Court Preview
ACS is proud to announce that our annual Supreme Court Term Preview event will be held this Thursday, October 17th at 3pm in RB 150. Our panelists bring a wealth of experience as appellate litigators and Supreme Court clerks.
Constantine Trela of Sidley Austin founded Sidley Chicago's Supreme Court and Appellate practice, and for many years was a leader of their national Supreme Court and Appellate group. He served as a law clerk to Judge Robert Sprecher on the Seventh Circuit and Justice John Paul Stevens. He has argued more than 90 cases in the Supreme Court of the United States, U. S. Courts of Appeals, and state supreme and intermediate appellate courts.
Annie Kastanek is an Assistant United States Attorney and adjunct professor who teaches the Supreme Court seminar here at Northwestern. She was a law clerk to Justice Anthony Kennedy, and previously worked as an appellate litigator at Mayer Brown and Sidley Austin.
The discussion will be moderated by Professor Tonja Jacobi. Her research, among other things, applies empirical, formal, and doctrinal methods of assessing Supreme Court behavior to topics such as coalition building between justices and the effects of gender and seniority on interruption during oral arguments.
