Washington, D.C. — Zinelle October, Interim President of the American Constitution Society, released the following statement today regarding the importance of an independent judiciary.

“The bedrock of the American legal system is an independent judiciary free from political influence and coercion. Attacks on individual judges and the judiciary are misguided and threaten to undermine the rule of law and erode public confidence in our courts. A free and independent judiciary should not be a partisan issue, but something that must be defended and for which we should all be thankful."
