The Forgotten Framer: James Wilson and the People's Constitution

UPenn Carey Law School, Gittis 2

James Wilson was a principal architect of the Constitution, a Supreme Court justice, and the first professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania, yet he remains far less known than his fellow Framers. Jesse Wegman, Senior Fellow in the Office of the President at the Brennan Center and longtime member of the New York Times editorial board, will engage in conversation with Professor William Ewald. Drawing on his biographical work on Wilson, Wegman will examine Wilson’s vision of popular sovereignty, his enduring legacy at Penn, and what his often-overlooked story can teach us about the Constitution today.
