Please join BLSA and ACS for a conversation with Professor Omavi Shukur, an Assistant Professor at UMD School of Law whose work centers on criminal law, criminal procedure, critical theory, and critical race theory. Professor Shukur began his legal career as a public defender in New Orleans, later served as Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and has litigated civil rights and criminal cases involving pressing social justice issues. Professor Shukur will share his experiences navigating a career in law, scholarship, and social justice while inspiring students to think critically about how they can use their legal education to create meaningful change.
