ACS New York: Protecting Privacy in New York: The Case for a State Constitutional Privacy Amendment Summit
Join us for a day of advocacy, including a Know Your Rights training and a panel on the state of current events regarding our rights around privacy here in New York.
We will cover how data about you is collected, tracked, and shared through smartphones, apps, social media, and online activity. Participants will learn how government agencies and private companies access and use this information, and what legal protections currently exist. We will also discuss the heightened risks that surveillance poses for protesters and marginalized communities, including the ways data can be used to monitor, target, or chill lawful activity.
The workshop will focus on digital hygiene, offering concrete steps to reduce your digital footprint, strengthen your security, and make informed choices about the technologies you use. This includes guidance on managing location data, securing communications, and navigating online spaces more safely.
Designed for advocates, students, and community members, this session will provide practical strategies to protect your privacy in an increasingly connected world.
