Should We Treat White-Nationalist Terror Like ISIS?: A Debate on the Merits of Countering Violent Extremism Initiatives

After the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, a growing number of national security experts have called for the U.S. government to treat the threat from white-nationalists like the threat from Islamist extremist. But the locus of these efforts, Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) programs, which supplement counterterrorism tactics with initiatives to divert Americans at risk of extremist ideologies comes with major civil liberties challenges.
