Cracking the School to Prison Pipeline: Restorative Justice as an Alternative to Punishment in Schools

MC 375, Chicago, IL

Join us for a conversation on the role that restorative justice can play in cracking the school to prison pipeline. By gaining a better understanding of the practices and pillars of restorative justice, we hope to consider the ways that RJ can provide a just alternative to punitive punishment and promote healing and resolution.

We are excited to welcome Dorian Tellis, a former Alliance High School student who learned restorative justice practices while a student and now works as a restorative justice practitioner, assisting young people in Milwaukee through restorative practices. Dorian will be joined by Sandra Sosa of the Burns Institute, who has over 18 years of experience teaching restorative justice in her Chicago community. We are also excited to welcome Laura Hardwicke, a defense attorney who most recently worked for the Lawndale Christian Legal Center, where she helped participants navigate Chicago’s Restorative Justice Community Court.
