WASHINGTON – The American Constitution Society, the nation’s premier progressive legal organization, announced today that two nationally-recognized attorneys were elected to the ACS Board of Directors at its March meeting.

The new members are:

  • Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., partner with Munger, Tolles & Olson and former Solicitor General of the United States (June 2011-June 2016); and

  • Ricki Seidman, senior principal at TSD Communications, former director of communications for Vice President Joe Biden, former White House deputy communications director for President Bill Clinton, and former executive Director of Rock the Vote

“Don Verrilli and Ricki Seidman bring to the American Constitution Society Board years of topnotch legal and policy expertise that complement the high caliber of legal minds who serve the organization,” said ACS Board Chair Cliff Sloan. “As the former Solicitor General and one of the nation’s top Supreme Court litigators, Don has a unique and wide range of legal experience. Ricki’s strategic know-how in the legal and public service worlds will provide ACS with a fresh perspective. I look forward to working with them to expand ACS and move the organization forward.”

ACS President Caroline Fredrickson said, “We are thrilled to add two of the nation’s top legal and strategic minds to the ACS Board in Donald Verrilli and Ricki Seidman. They have a deep understanding of progressive values for which ACS stands and a clear vision for how ACS will move forward in these turbulent times.”

Verrilli is a partner with Munger, Tolles & Olson, and the founder of its Washington, D.C. office. In addition to handling matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and the courts of appeals, Mr. Verrilli’s practice focuses on representing and counseling clients on multi-dimensional problems, where litigation, regulation and public policy intersect to shape markets and industries in our evolving economy. Mr. Verrilli is one of the nation’s premier Supreme Court and appellate advocates. He served as Solicitor General of the United States from June 2011 to June 2016. During that time he argued dozens of cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, was responsible for representing the United States government in all appellate matters before the High Court and in the courts of appeals, and was a legal advisor to President Barack Obama and the Attorney General. Additional biographical information is available here.

Seidman is a senior principal at TSD Communications and a seasoned veteran with broad experience in communications and general strategy. In 2008, Seidman worked for President Obama’s general election campaign. In the spring and summer of 2009, she assisted the White House in the successful confirmation effort for President Obama’s first nominee to the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor. Prior to joining TSD, Ricki focused primarily on public service and political advocacy. She held several senior White House positions during the Clinton Administration, including counselor to the chief of staff and director of scheduling and advance for the president; and she subsequently served as deputy associate attorney general in the Department of Justice.
