Join the Harvard Law School Chapter of the American Constitution Society and HBLSA on Friday, November 17th for Constitution in the Classroom (CIC)! CIC brings Harvard Law students into K-12 classrooms to teach a one-day lesson on fundamental constitutional principles. More information on CITC and possible lesson topics can be found here.
We will be collectively teaching a lesson to 10th grade students at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS). No prior teaching experience is required and lesson plans will be provided! You can sign up for one or both of the following class periods: 12:25 PM – 1:40 PM or 1:45 PM – 3PM. CRLS is a 15-minute walk from the law school campus, so please keep this in mind as you choose a class period. Spots are limited, and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
ACS and the Criminal Law Society cosponsored Progressive Prosecuting with Larry Krasner. Larry Krasner is an American lawyer who is the 26th District Attorney of Philadelphia. Elected to the position in 2017, Krasner was one of the first in the United States to run as a self-described "progressive prosecutor". He campaigned on a platform to reform elements of the criminal justice system, including reduced incarceration. His policies include ending criminal charges against those caught with marijuana possession, ending cash bail for those accused of some misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies, reducing supervision for parolees, and seeking more lenient sentences for certain crimes. Krasner graduated from the University of Chicago in 1983. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1987.
ACS and OutLaw hosted the event Governing During Turbulent Times with Governor Kate Brown. Governor Brown will be discussing her time as governor navigating events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the George Floyd protests, as well as her experience being the first openly LGBTQ+ governor of any U.S. state.
Kate Brown served as governor of Oregon from 2015 to 2023. She was the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to statewide office in any U.S. state, as well as the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected governor of a U.S state and second woman elected governor of Oregon. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Conservation with a certificate in women's studies from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1981 and a J.D. degree and certificate in environmental law from the Lewis & Clark College Law School in 1985.
Attorneys from the Appellate Project came to Georgetown to discuss the work they are doing to get historically underrepresented groups into the judiciary. Co-hosted by: Women's Legal Alliance, Disabled Law Students Association, and Muslim Law Students Association.
A moderated panel of experts on reproductive justice and abortion rights issues will provide information on where the legal landscape of abortion access is going, implications on other related rights to privacy, and the real-world impacts people are experiencing after Dobbs. The panel features Yveka Pierre (If/When/How Senior Litigation Counsel), Nneka Ewulonu (ACLU Attorney), Susanna Birdsong (General Counsel/Vice President of Compliance at Planned Parenthood South Atlantic), and will be moderated by Professor Boone.
