CUNY: Student-Faculty Mixer
This event will be an informal mixer for CUNY Law students and faculty. We believe there’s a need for more opportunities for students and professors to connect in an informal setting, and we hope this event will help foster meaningful conversations and relationships. We have arranged to have wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres, and we’re expecting a strong turnout from students 1L through 4L. This event will be open to all students, faculty, and staff.
Legal Observer Training
Legal Observer training is run by UW’s chapter of the National Lawyers Guild. NLG trains volunteers so they may attend protests, marches or other actions to monitor, observe, and document government conduct against First Amendment protected activity; provide arrest support for protestors on the ground and helps support teams track and help arrests folks; and empower activities and serve as a deterrent to unconstitutional behavior by law enforcement. Snacks will be provided at this training.
State Constitutions and Lockstepping: A Conversation with State Supreme Court Justices
Even when federal courts roll back constitutional rights, state supreme courts can interpret their constitutions more expansively. But many states still “lockstep” with federal readings. Why does this happen, and how should lawyers (and judges) respond?
Join Stanford Law School ACS and the Bay Area Lawyers Chapter for a discussion with state supreme court justices from across the nation. Panelists will include Justice Anita Earls (North Carolina), Justice Mary Yu (Washington), and Justice Melissa Hart (Colorado).
Lunch will be served; RSVP by February 24. A Zoom link will also be sent to all confirmed participants prior to the event.
Breaking Down Agenda 47: Immigration
Professor David Weber will be presenting on recent changes implemented by the Trump administration pertaining to immigration law. The meeting will be interactive, allowing attendees to have their questions answered and concerns heard. Pizza will be provided.
