Please join us in welcoming Rachel Rintelmann, Managing Attorney for the Community Partnerships Program at Earthjustice. We will be learning about ways to interpret and utilize non-environmental civil rights statutes, particularly the Fair Housing Act of 1968, to address the disproportionate impacts of pollution and climate change felt by low-income and minority communities. By laying out the current legal landscape for the landmark civil rights statutes, and the ways they have been severely narrowed through judicial interpretation, we will discuss the possible future of environmental justice beginning to gather support in the courts through a new avenue: The Fair Housing Act of 1968.
Shawarmas will be served, with a vegan falafel option available.
On March 5th, the ACS University of Kansas School of Law Chapter would like to invite the Next Generation of Leaders in the Law —YOU —to have lunch with members of our judiciary! We will feature several state and federal judges in Kansas who will share their experiences entering the judiciary, their work, and what they would suggest to law students interested in pursuing this career path.
That evening, we will be inviting the speakers to a networking event with the KU Chapter and extending invitations to the Washburn Chapter and the UMKC Chapter!
Hosted by Peter Shamshiri, Rhiannon Hamam, and Michael Liroff, the 5-4 Podcast is a progressive and occasionally profane take on the ideological battles at the heart of the Court's most important landmark cases and an irreverent tour of all the ways in which the law is shaped by politics.
Join us for a conversation on the increased law enforcement activity in Minneapolis: the historical context for the activity, how we got here, and how we move forward. Join us in-person for the livestream. The livestream will NOT be shared broadly so join us in person for the conversation!
*In-person attendance required; the virtual link will not be shared.
