The First Amendment Under Siege: The State of the Union with Joe Walsh
Former Congressman and Presidential Candidate Joe Walsh will be visiting ASU Law to discuss the Trump Administration's recent actions and how they threaten core principles of the First Amendment, including the right to dissent. During the conversation, moderators will lead a conversation with Mr. Walsh covering his political background, why he began to speak out against President Trump, why he joined the Democratic party, the importance of the first amendment and the right to dissent, and a variety of specific actions that the Trump Administration has taken that threaten these rights including: The use of the FCC to censor dissent, mid-year gerrymandering as a way to silence voices electorally, the use of RICO charges against policy institutes and protestors, executive orders targeting symbolic speech, and lawsuits against media companies.
