Title IX Comment Drafting Party

Room 128, New Haven, CT

On November 29, the Department of Education published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on Title IX in the Federal Register, starting the clock on a 60-day comment period open to the public. If the proposed regulations go into effect, there are deep implications for our rights as members of a federally-funded educational community. The proposed regulations would limit survivors' agency in deciding whether to proceed with formal complaints; change the standards of evidence schools use to adjudicate sexual misconduct and discrimination; curtail the responsibility of institutions to respond to sex discrimination to those cases where it has actual, rather than constructive, notice; and much more.

In response, the Title IX Working Group, together with ACS, will be holding a comment drafting party on Thursday, January 24 from 5:45-7:45pm in SLB 128 to express our alarm about and opposition to these proposed regulations. If you are concerned about the notice of proposed rule-making on Title IX, the threat it presents to equity in American education, and are interested in helping to craft a comment from YLS students on the proposed regulations, please join us. We are happy to assist any student in participating in the notice and comment process, regardless of political affiliation or perspective on the proposed regulations. Representatives from the Working Group will be there to guide you through the process of drafting a comment. Pizza dinner will be served, and Title IX swag will also be available.
