From the front Lines of Voting Rights in Minnesota w/ ACLU MN
Over the course of the past two decades, the ACLU of Minnesota (ACLU-MN) has been working to, among other things, Restore the Vote to Minnesotans on community felony supervision. The result was an extraordinary victory in 2023 when, following a historic ACLU-MN voting rights case, Minnesota enacted legislation restoring the voting rights to more than 55,000 of these individuals. Governor Tim Walz called it the most significant expansion of voting rights in Minnesota in a half-century. Come hear ACLU-MN staff talk about how a culmination of years of what it calls “integrated advocacy” (a combination of strategic activism and organizing, as well as lobbying and litigation) secured this fundamental right. And, perhaps most important, learn about the ways they are working to implement and defend the new law.
