Democracy Deferred: Territories, Rights, and the Constitution

Sullivan Hall, Seattle, WA

Democracy Deferred: Territories, Rights, and the Constitution will explore the enduring legacy of the Insular Cases. These cases continue to shape life, law, and citizenship in the U.S. territories. This Social Justice Monday event invites students, legal professionals, and community members to engage with the ongoing impact of these cases on constitutional rights, identity, and sovereignty.

Our discussion will be grounded in the experiences of Indigenous and islander communities. We will examine how the legal framework established during colonial expansion continues to impact us today.

Join us as we begin the year in dialogue with history, the law, and each other.
