ACS New Jersey: Lawyer Chapter Interest Meeting
Join New Jersey Lawyers seeking to join the NJ Lawyer ACS Chapter for an interest meeting on Zoom. All are welcome! See below for excerpts from the invitation from Micauri Vargas, attorney at the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, to join this movement.
Dear Fellow New Jersey Lawyer,
You don’t need me to tell you something is wrong. You’ve seen it.
Across America, communities are under attack from federal forces, our democracy is being threatened, and parts of our history are being erased.
New Jersey is no exception.
Those of us who are lawyers carry a particular responsibility in this moment. We have the tools to protect what holds democracy together, and the opportunity to help build what comes next.
That belief is at the heart of the American Constitution Society (“ACS”). Progressive lawyers founded ACS in 2001 as a counterweight to the Federalist Society and as a home for lawyers who believed our legal system could live up to promises our country has yet to fully realize.
For twenty-five years, ACS has pushed for a judiciary that reflects the people it serves and democratic institutions that guard against abuses of power. In doing so, it has built a legal community that does more than watch from the sidelines.
Yet twenty-five years later, New Jersey still doesn’t have a lawyer chapter.
It’s time we change that.
If we’re going to build the country’s most inclusive, multiracial democracy right here in our state, we need lawyers who are willing to help build it. We need lawyers who understand that what happens in our courts, our institutions, and our communities will help determine what kind of democracy emerges from this moment.
Defending democracy in 2026 is an all-hands-on-deck situation. Your help isn’t just appreciated. It’s necessary.
Will you lend a hand? Join me for a Virtual Interest Meeting on Constitution Day (Sept. 17) at 6:00 p.m. to become a member of ACS and build a lawyer chapter in New Jersey!
