ACS Austin: 'The Schoolhouse Gate' with Justin Driver

Texas State Capitol Grounds, Austin, TX

Join the Austin Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society as we welcome Professor Justin Driver back to Austin for the Texas Book Festival. Professor Driver will be discussing his brand new book, The Schoolhouse Gate: Public Education, the Supreme Court, and the Battle for the American Mind. In his book, Professor Driver analyzes the rights of students in public schools and how those rights have changed over time in light of decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court.

A discussion of students’ rights is especially timely and relevant in our state. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently intervened in a case to defend a state law mandating that students stand for the Pledge of Allegiance unless a parent or guardian requests, in writing, that the student be excused.

Featuring:

Justin Driver, Harry N. Wyatt Professor of Law and Ludwig and Hilde Wolf Teaching Scholar, University of Chicago Law School; Member, ACS National Board of Academic Advisors

The discussion will be held at the Book TV Tent near the intersection of Congress Avenue and 11th Street. A map is available here.

The Texas Book Festival is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit www.texasbookfestival.org.
