A Conversation with California Assemblyman Rob Bonta '98
Please join the ACS Yale Law Student Chapter, YULPS, APALSA, and YLS Dems for a conversation with California Assemblyman Rob Bonta '98, next Tuesday, 10/20 at 12:00 PM
Assemblymember Rob Bonta was elected to the California State Assembly's 18th District in 2012, where he represents the cities of Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro. He was the first Filipino American legislator in California's then 165-year history.
He obtained his Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School after attending Yale College and the University of Oxford. His legal career included work as a Deputy City Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco, where he represented the City and County and its employees, and as a private attorney, where he fought to protect Californians from exploitation and racial profiling. As an Assemblymember, he has sponsored and passed some of the most progressive legislation in the country, including legislation that banned outrageous rent increases and unjust evictions; ended the use of for-profit, private prisons and detention facilities in California; and the TRUTH Act, which requires immigrants be informed of their rights before speaking with ICE agents.
We hope you all can join us next Tuesday to hear from the Assemblyman and ask him questions about his legal career and time in the California State Assembly.
