The American Constitution Society’s (ACS) President role is a unique and important opportunity for an experienced and committed professional to build on the organization’s nearly 25-year history and lead the next chapter of exciting growth and deep impact in the legal community and the society more generally. The President will be charged with fully realizing the potential of ACS as a key partner in a larger progressive community. As a thought leader and trusted partner around legal and constitutional rights, ACS’ President will engage and strengthen ACS’ vibrant Network and grow its membership, help to place the next generation of talented and progressive legal professionals in positions of leadership, and grow the state and federal judicial pipelines with nominees from diverse backgrounds who are committed to a progressive understanding of the Constitution and the law, and who reflect the diversity of our country. At a time when core aspects of our Nation’s values and commitment to democracy are being tested, the President will be a strong voice for democratic institutions and mores as well as the rule of law. The President will also be charged with strengthening the organization’s governance and developing recruiting and retaining a broad range of talent.

ACS is committed to realizing the promises of the Constitution by building and leading a progressive and diverse legal community dedicated to advancing and defending democracy, equity, liberty, access to justice, and the rule of law. Founded in 2001, ACS is a leading progressive legal organization, with nearly 200 student and lawyer chapters in almost every state and on most law school campuses. The ACS network of lawyers, law students, judges, scholars, and many others provide a source of ideas, innovation, energy, and talent for the progressive legal community. Through its public programs (over 800 debates, conferences, and featured talks and discussions across America each year), publications, podcasts, and active online presence, ACS generates intellectual capital for ready use by its allies and shapes debates on key legal and public policy issues including access to justice, rule of law, democracy, equality, voting rights, immigration, workers’ rights, and many others. ACS nurtures the next generation of progressive lawyers, judges, policy experts, legislators, and academics by providing opportunities for networking, mentoring, and organizing around matters of both local and national significance.
