Private: 2007 Constance Baker Motley National Moot Court Competition in Constitutional Law
The American Constitution Society is pleased to announce the second annual Constance Baker Motley National Moot Court Competition in Constitutional Law. The competition will consist of two preliminary regional competition rounds, at the University of Chicago (March 31-April 1) and UCLA (March 17-18). The topic for 2007 involves important, timely and open questions of law on the intersection of the freedom of the press, national security, and federal criminal law.
At each regional competition, teams of two will argue a minimum of three preliminary rounds on Saturday, and eight (8) teams will advance to the quarterfinal level of elimination rounds on Sunday. From that four (4) teams will advance to a semi-final elimination round, and then two (2) teams will advance to a regional competition final round.
The winning team from each regional competition will compete in The Constance Baker Motley National Moot Court Competition in Constitutional Law Final Round in July 2007 at the ACS National Convention in Washington, D.C. The winning team selected in the Final Round will receive a $3,000 cash prize, and the runner-up team will receive a $1,000 cash prize.
Please note that while teams will write either a petitioner or respondent brief, as assigned by the ACS National Moot Court Coordinator, each team will argue both sides at the competition.
REGISTRATION will close on November 17, 2006. All briefs must be received no later than January 19, 2007.
After registering, each team will be assigned to write for either the petitioner or the respondent. Additionally ACS will assign teams to one of the two regional competitions based upon geographical considerations and to balance the number of competing teams per regional competition site. Teams will be notified of their assigned regional competition no later than December 1, 2006.
All potential participants should be familiar with the PROBLEM, SCHEDULE and RULES.
