Private: Justice Breyer Shows Up For Jury Duty

District Court Judge Thomas Sullivan Jr. was reviewing the list of potential jurors for a pair of cases and thought, "Oh, my God." Seated amongst the jurors was Justice Stephen Breyer. Judge Sullivan had not recognized before seeing his name on the juror list.
Breyer did not ultimately have to serve because a defense attorney on one of the cases excused him. According to Judge Thomas, the defense attorney said, "The last thing I need is two judges on the case."
Breyer told reporters that he reported for jury duty because he felt it was important to fulfill his civic duty.
