McGeorge - The Future of Voting Rights in the U.S. and California

Join ACS McGeorge, the Law & Civic Engagement Initiative, and the Capital Center for Law & Policy for a discussion of the changing landscape of voting rights and the role of lawyers in protecting access to the democratic process. 

Discussion will include: Kevin Morris, Senior Research Fellow and Voting Policy Scholar at the Brennan Center for Justice, who will discuss the federal Voting Rights Act, recent Supreme Court developments, their implications for voting-rights litigation and enforcement, and his book An American Problem: How the Country Built—and the Supreme Court Broke—the Voting Rights Act. Sonni Waknin, Senior Voting Rights Counsel at the UCLA Voting Rights Project, will address the California Voting Rights Act, reform efforts, and California’s role in protecting voters as federal protections falter. 

Presentations will be followed by a moderated discussion and audience Q&A session.
