ACS Memphis and Mid-South Lawyer Chapter: Kickoff with ACS President Phil Brest and Judge Bernice Donald

University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Memphis, TN

Join the new Memphis Lawyer Chapter for a kickoff event featuring ACS President Phil Brest, who served in the Biden Administration assisting with judicial appointments. Phil will be in conversation with Judge Bernice Donald about the role of the judiciary in protecting the rule of law and the roles of lawyers in ensuring the continued commitment to constitutional principles of democracy, individual rights, and equal justice.

The engine of ACS’s work is its network of nearly 250 chapters. We have the opportunity to shape what an ACS-Memphis chapter can be, including through:

  • Public Programming: bringing and developing progressive ideas to help shift the narrative toward enhancing democracy and the rule of law
  • Community Building: providing an opportunity to build local networks and plug into a national network of colleagues with shared values
  • Path to the Bench: identifying and preparing judges of the future as part of the ACS Path to the Bench project
  • Mentoring and Support: offering law students and early career lawyers support to sustain a movement of progressive lawyers in our community
  • Coalition Building: amplifying and strengthening the democracy-sustaining work already being done by bringing legal expertise

In this urgent moment, there is much to be done. We hope to see you on October 20.
