St. Mary's School of Law - Beto O'Rourke: Democracy in Action
Join the American Constitution Society at St. Mary's School of Law for a moderated conversation with former U.S. Congressman Beto O'Rourke on October 5, 2026 — voter registration deadline day for the November general election in Texas.
O'Rourke, a fourth-generation El Pasoan who represented Texas's 16th Congressional District in the U.S. House and has run statewide and national campaigns for the U.S. Senate, the presidency, and Governor of Texas, will discuss election law, access to the ballot, civic responsibility, and where Texas politics is headed. As founder of Powered by People, a nonpartisan voter registration and civic engagement organization, O'Rourke has spent years working directly with communities and students across the political spectrum — including at public and private universities throughout Texas — on the importance of participation in democracy regardless of party affiliation.
This event is free and open to all St. Mary's students, faculty, and staff, and will include a Q&A session where attendees can engage directly with O'Rourke on the issues that matter most to them. A nonpartisan voter registration table will also be available on-site — since October 5 is the registration deadline for the upcoming election, any student, regardless of political affiliation, will have the opportunity to register to vote before it's too late.
This event is educational in nature and does not constitute an endorsement of any candidate, party, or campaign.
