Champions of Law & Integrity: The Antebellum States' Rights Principle

Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University, Hazel Hall, Room 329, Arlington, Virginia

BLSA, ACS, and MLSA welcome you to join us and Professor Zamir Ben-Dan in Part 2 of his series for Champions of Law & Integrity, where we contextualize federalism and its implications on freedom and equality throughout American history. We'll learn how the "states' rights" platform was a constitutional euphemism for a state right to racially enslave and subjugate, exposing inherent contradictions within 19th-century legal theory and highlighting important features that continue to inform modern judicial power and civil rights litigation. Shawarma will be served, with a vegan falafel option available.
