Gerrymandering, the Supreme Court, and Michigan's Constitutional Amendment

Room 145, Auburn Hills, MI

Please join us for our campus Constitution Day Celebration: Gerrymandering, the United States Supreme Court, and Michigan's Constitutional Amendment. This event will center around a policy discussion of Gerrymandering between Mr. Mark Brewer, an election-law attorney, and the Honorable Michael Warren. The discussion will focus on how the Supreme Court and State Legislatures have addressed the issue of Partisan Gerrymandering, culminating in a discussion of the 2018 Michigan Constitutional Amendment that created an Independent Redistricting Commission.

Mr. Brewer is a pre-eminent election-law attorney who is with the firm, Goodman Acker P.C. Mr. Brewer received his J.D. from Stanford University Law School where he served on the Law Review, and his A.B. with honors from Harvard College. After clerking for a judge of the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Charles Levin, he was admitted to practice in Michigan and has specialized in union-side labor, election, campaign finance, and non-profit law.

The Honorable Michael Warren is the co-creator of patriotweek.org. Judge Warren received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (Cum Laude) and his B.A. from Wayne State University (Magna Cum Laude). After clerking for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Dorothy Comstock Riley, Judge Warren was a partner at Honigman, Miller, Schwartz & Cohn L.L.P. Judge Warren was appointed to the bench in 2002.
