ACS created the Judicial Nominations Issue Group to focus greater attention on the growing crisis resulting from the excessive vacancies in the federal judiciary. At the time of its formation in 2010, there were more than 100 federal judicial vacancies, with additional seats expected to be empty in the near future.
The issue group seeks to encourage members of Congress and senior administration officials to prioritize judicial confirmations to ensure a fully staffed and functioning judiciary that can respond capably to the needs of Americans seeking justice. The group works with ACS staff to generate national attention about vacancies on the federal bench and the resulting problems -- by conducting briefings for reporters, writing op-eds and blog posts, and informing the public through a vareity of other means as well.
