From Alabama's Shame to Local Mobilization


In 2011, Alabama enacted the most draconian anti-immigration law in the country: House Bill 56. In October 2013, major provisions of HB 56 were blocked after a successful challenge from the Southern Poverty Law Center and other groups. Sam Brooke, Senior Staff Attorney at the Southern Poverty Law Center, was deeply involved in the litigation against HB 56 and anti-immigrant state laws in Georgia and South Carolina. He joined ACS for a conversation about the fight for immigration justice at the state level.
