Law & Candidacy: Taking the Plunge and Running for Office

Interested in running for office or helping others campaign?

Join ACS and the Journal of Law and Public Affairs for a discussion with Neil Makhija, the 2016 Democratic Nominee for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from the 122nd House District. Makhija outperformed the national Democratic ticket by 14 points in the general election. He has also co-founded, managed, or advised a number of advocacy groups, campaigns, and community organizations over the past 10 years both in Pennsylvania and nationally at the state, local, and federal level.

Makhija currently practices law at Berger & Montague, P.C., a nationally recognized class action, consumer protection, antitrust, employment, and Qui Tam law firm based in Philadelphia.

During his candidacy, Makhija won the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court case In Re: Makhija (2016), which protected the rights of students and recent graduates to run for office in their home state under the Pennsylvania Constitution.
