Development Associate or Manager (Grants Program)

This position primarily provides support for the grants program, though assists with other department and organization functions as needed. 


Job Responsibilities 

The Associate reports to the Senior Director of Foundation Relations, and is responsible for (among other tasks) the following: 

  • Develop and maintain expertise about Salesforce, particularly related to grant functions. 
  • Manage administrative aspects of grants program, including monitoring and updating of summary documents for other departments, maintaining contact information for program officers and other key foundation liaisons, tracking grant status and deadlines, updating virtual and paper filing system, and documenting funder outreach.  
  • Develop expertise in project grant budgeting and financial monitoring; assist with communicating budget deviations to other departments. 
  • Draft and send correspondence to grants contacts regarding organization’s publications, events, and other programmatic work. 
  • Assist with briefing materials, grant submission materials, and grant research as assigned. Assist with individual donor and sponsor research as assigned and as grants-related workload allows. 
  • With Vice President for Development and Senior Counsel, track budget and assist with budget deviation reports. 
  • Manage all state fundraising registration compliance for organization through outside consulting firm. 
  • Provide backup to department’s other Associate or Manager with respect to check requests, Salesforce tasks, and other administrative items as relative workloads require. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 



This position requires someone who enjoys a busy workday with several ongoing tasks and exposure to a variety of issues and projects throughout a given week.  Specific skills required for success include:  

  • Exceptional organizational skills, including ability to prioritize and manage numerous tasks simultaneously. 
  • Strong writing skills, preferably in a Development context. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Self-starter; ability to stay on task and be productive with limited daily supervision. 
  • Commitment to ACS’s mission and goals, and ability to understand and explain our programmatic work.  
  • For associate position, one or more years of experience at a nonprofit; for manager position, two or more years of experience in fundraising/nonprofit development. 
  • Bachelor’s degree.
