Tulsa ACS Officer Elections

This will be a general meeting of the Tulsa ACS Chapter membership for the purposes of electing a new executive board for the 2024-2025 school year.

Tinker and Free Speech in Schools

We will be hosting Mary Beth Tunker, one of the Tinker plaintiffs, for a conversation about her experience as a plaintiff and the importance of maintaining the right to free speech in schools. This event is particularly timely given the waves of state legislation in recent years aimed at student speech and abridging minors’ rights to access information in schools. Lunch will be provided.

ACS Chicago: A Conversation with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison

Join the Loyola University Chicago School of Law ACS Chapter for a conversation with Keith Ellison, the Attorney General for the State of Minnesota. Keith Ellison was sworn in as Minnesota’s 30th attorney general on January 7, 2019. As the People’s Lawyer, Attorney General Ellison’s job is to help Minnesotans afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect. His guiding values are generosity and inclusion. He is the first African American and the first Muslim American to be elected to statewide office in Minnesota.

In 2020, AG Ellison took over as special prosecutor in the George Floyd case. During the program, AG Ellison will provide his recollections from George Floyd’s Murder, the trial, and the aftermath, and discussing ending the cycle of police violence.

ACS Minneapolis-St. Paul: Volunteer Opportunity - Breakthrough Twin Cities

Breakthrough Twin Cities is a non-profit organization working with students who face barriers to post-secondary education, to achieve success in college and careers. Breakthrough is seeking volunteers to work as college essay coaches with our 11th graders on April 20th from 1pm-5pm.

Essay coaches focus less on the mechanics and grammar of writing, and more on helping students articulate their own compelling personal narrative for college essays. ACS volunteers will have the opportunity to meet in-person with one or two students, hear their stories, and work with them to craft a compelling first draft of their college essay. Ice cream will be served to all volunteers.

Essay coaching will take place at Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul. For more information, please contact Dylan Saul at dsaul@fredlaw.com.

El Derecho a lo Común

The event will be a presentation of Prof. Érika Fontánez Torres' new book "El derecho a lo común: bienes comunes, propiedad y justicia climática." There will be a commentary by Prof. Pedro Saade, Prof. Luis E. Rodríguez and student Víctor Burgos Díaz. Afterwards we will open the floor to questions and possibly conversation with attendees. It will be a brown bag lunch event with pizza.
