Speaker Kerry Max Cook, "Chasing Justice: My Story of Freeing Myself After Two Decades on Death Row for a Crime I Didn't Commit"
Oct 2 2008 - 5:00pm
Kerry Max Cook was twice wrongfully convicted of murder in Texas and spent 22 years on Death Row. On the eve of his fourth trial, he pled guilty for a pre-arranged sentence of time served. Within a month, DNA tests exonerated Cook. However, based on his plea, he had no right to appeal his conviction, and despite the DNA results, he remains a convicted murderer under Texas law. He has been the focus on many courses on Wrongful Convictions, his story has been chronicled in newspapers, magazines, books, and even theater. His is one of the most well-known stories in the "Innocence Movement," and he will appear at the University of San Francisco School of Law to tell his story.
