ACS Seeks Assistant Director of Communications
ACS is seeking a talented, energetic and versatile Assistant Director of Communications to support the work of its busy communications department.
The Assistant Director will be involved in a wide range of work that supports and promotes ACS’s growing network of lawyers, law students, scholars, and policymakers. Under the direction of the Director of Communications, this person will have responsibilities in several areas.
Specific job responsibilities include:
• Promoting ACS publications and events to traditional and online media;
• Drafting press releases and advisories;
• Coordinating press and publicity for media and public events;
• Contribute articles to, and assist in the production of, the ACS Weekly Bulletin;
• Provide media support as directed for student and lawyer chapters;
• Draft communications to ACS members;
• Enhance online communications, including the ACS Website;
• Support the Associate Director in producing and soliciting material for ACSBlog;
• Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director.
Qualifications and Background
The ideal candidate must have strong writing skills, excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge of current legal and public policy issues. Precision and accuracy in tasks is important and should complement a creative approach to communications. A communications background is desirable. A law degree or strong familiarity with legal and policy issues is required.
Specific skills include:
• Ability to produce stellar written materials quickly and for a variety of formats and styles;
• Ability to substantively review and edit documents;
• Understanding of, and ability to introduce and use, traditional communications and outreach tools;
• Experience with online communications, including familiarity with blogs and bloggers;
• Experience developing and coordinating events for media;
Salary commensurate with experience.
