Coercive Evangelizing in the U.S. Military?
Mr. Weinstein will discuss current church-state issues and cases in the military that he is involved with. Questions from the audience will be welcome.
Michael Weinstein is an undisputed leader of the national movement to restore the obliterated wall separating church and state in the United States armed forces. He is a 1977 Honor Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and spent 10 years in the Air force as a "JAG" or military attorney serving as both a Federal prosecutor and criminal defense attorney.
In 2006, he founded the non-profit Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), and recently authored With God on Our Side: One Man's War Against an Evangelical Coup in America's Military, both of which discuss what he calls the systemic problem of religious intolerance throughout the United States armed forces.
His investigative journey into the realm of evangelical Christian proselytizing in the military began in 2005 when his son, then a cadet at the Air Force Academy (AFA), reported that other cadets had accused him of killing Jesus and verbally assaulted him for being a (expletive) Jew.
Mikey subsequently brought a religious liberty case against the AFA and, with the assistance of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, seeking to delve into whether Chaplains and other high-ranking officers were exhorting cadets to embrace evangelical beliefs and bring their peers to Jesus.
